The Algarve has 111 named beaches in this guide — from Odeceixe on the Vicentine edge to Monte Gordo on the Spanish border. They are not interchangeable: the west is cliffs and Atlantic swell, the centre is resort sand and Benagil-era boat days, the east is Ria Formosa ferries and flat lagoon beaches.
Use this page as your map and shortlist. Each beach links to a full attraction review with who it suits, parking reality, and seasonal crowds.

Practical rules for every beach
- Flags first — Atlantic beaches change hourly; red means do not swim.
- Parking before 10:00 — Marinha, Benagil, Falésia, and Lagos coves fill fast in August.
- Ferry clocks east — island beaches (Tavira, Culatra, Armona) need return-ticket discipline.
- West wind — Aljezur and Sagres bays get afternoon chop; mornings are kinder for paddling.
- One backup cove — if parking fails at a headline beach, each municipality section above gives alternatives.
