Attraction review

Limitezero

Alcoutim

Limitezero review — the world's first cross-border zipline from Sanlúcar de Guadiana to Alcoutim, 720 metres over the Guadiana at 70–80 km/h, from €25 with gift vouchers and Guadiana ferry returns.

Our verdict

Limitezero is the east-Algarve's quirkiest hour out — book a timed slot from Spain, fly into Portugal, then ferry back across the Guadiana. Worth the drive from Tavira or VRSA; skip if anyone is under 14, over the weight band, or scared of open-water heights.

Book with Limitezero

Limitezero (Límite Zero) runs the world’s only cross-border zipline: a 720-metre flight from Sanlúcar de Guadiana (Spain) across the Guadiana to Alcoutim (Portugal). A family-operated attraction marketed as RIOFRONTERA SL, it has become a bucket-list stop on the eastern border — TripAdvisor reviewers commonly rate it highly for the sheer novelty of landing in another country in under a minute at 70–80 km/h. You launch beside the Spanish river dock; you land on the Portuguese bank, walk roughly five minutes to the Alcoutim pier, and take the Guadiana ferry back to Spain (ferry fare is not included in the zipline ticket on the operator site — budget separately).

The experience

Check in at Av. Portugal 1, 21595 Sanlúcar de Guadiana — in front of the ferry dock, next to the tourist office and Asador de San Marcos. Staff equip you with harness and helmet, then drive you uphill to the take-off platform (short 4×4 or van transfer). Briefing covers hand position on the pulley, leg-brake technique, and landing posture. The flight crosses the river gorge with Spain on one side and the Alcoutim castle hill on the other — the photo angle is the story. Marketing plays the “fly through time” hook (Spain and Portugal clocks differ in the branding); treat it as fun context, not logistics.

There is no time limit on exploring Alcoutim after you land — castle quarter, riverfront cafés, or a Portuguese lunch before the return ferry. Many visitors zip, ferry back, and drive on; others pair the jump with a slow Alcoutim afternoon.

Prices and booking

Zipline jump (up to 8 people) from €25 per person on the online shop. Groups of more than 8 from €22.50 each. Gift vouchers and group discounts (12+) are advertised on the house site. Optional professional photos are commonly quoted around €5 extra — useful if you are solo without a camera. Book a timed slot online; walk-ups risk sold-out peaks and unprepared kit. Cancellation: up to 72 hours notice allows date change or full refund per operator terms; inside 24 hours typically date-change only; no-show forfeits the ticket.

Who can jump — safety rules

Official safety conditions require truthful weight declaration: minimum 40 kg, maximum 105 kg (staff may cap at 100 kg in wind). Minimum age 14 (Spanish law). Minors under 16 need a parent or legal guardian to meet them on the Portuguese side. Not suitable if pregnant, under the influence, or with heart conditions incompatible with adventure sports. Equipment is maintained to European standards; thunderstorms or extreme wind can cancel or postpone — refunds or reschedules offered. No passport required within Schengen.

Hours and season

Schedules follow daylight and change through the year — always confirm on the booking calendar. Outside peak season (roughly 1 July to mid-September), Limitezero is typically closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Operating clocks follow Spanish time (GMT+1), one hour ahead of Portugal in the operator’s framing. Phone +34 670 313 933 or email [email protected] for same-week checks.

Getting there from the Algarve

Nearest airports: Faro (FAO) ~100 km, Seville (SVQ) ~150 km per the operator. Most holidaymakers drive from Tavira (~45–55 minutes), Vila Real de Santo António (~50 minutes via Ayamonte bridge or longer via Castro Marim ferry logic), or Castro Marim. You must start in Spain at Sanlúcar — you cannot board from Alcoutim. Public transport same-day returns are awkward; Limitezero suggests an overnight in either country if you are bus-dependent.

Park in Sanlúcar for the activity; the Alcoutim–Sanlúcar ferry also runs for cars if you prefer to leave the vehicle on the Portuguese bank and zip back on foot later — confirm current ferry tariffs locally.

Who it suits

Yes for teens and adults who want a story-worthy border stunt on an east-coast week; couples and friend groups from Tavira, VRSA, Monte Gordo, or Alcoutim; gift buyers after something sharper than a cork trivet. Less ideal for under-14s, height-phobic travellers, or west-coast bases (Lagos) unless you accept a long round trip. Not a beach activity — pair with Castro Marim castle or Sapal wetlands the same day only if you block half a day for driving and ferry timing.

Compared with

Skydive Algarve for true altitude adrenaline on the west coast. Sports and adventure in the Algarve for kite, hike, and paddle options. Regular Guadiana ferries between Alcoutim and Sanlúcar for a calm border lunch without the zip line. Planning: where to stay in Alcoutim, top things to do in Tavira, Vila Real de Santo António.

Practical tips

Book 24–48 hours ahead in summer weekends. Wear trainers and secure pockets — leave valuables in the office or send large bags on the ferry before you jump. Small backpacks are allowed. Check wind and river conditions the morning of; Atlantic breezes upriver can trigger weight caps. After landing, confirm the next ferry time before wandering deep into Alcoutim. Combine with Spanish tapas in Sanlúcar if your slot is late afternoon.

Worth it?

Yes if you are already exploring the Guadiana border and meet age/weight rules — €25-ish for a genuine world-first is fair value. Book the photo if you will regret no proof. Skip if the drive from your west-coast hotel eats the whole day, or if anyone in the group is under 14.
