Cycling & bicycle hire

Search and compare road, gravel, hybrid, and electric bike hire across the Algarve using the form below.

Search bicycle hire

Compare bicycles and electric bicycles - default pickup near Faro.

The Algarve is proper cycling country: cork-oak hills (the locals call it the barrocal), almond valleys, coastal paths, and Serra climbs for road riders and e-bikers alike. Use the hire search above, then read the route and base-town guide below.

Compare bicycle hire

Use the search box at the top of the page to compare hire through our BikesBooking partner. Then check the frame size, the pedal type (bring your own if you ride cleats), and whether they will deliver the bike to your hotel rather than only the airport.

  • Book early for Easter and the UK school holidays. Outside the resort towns, there are not many bikes to go round.
  • Ask whether a helmet, spare tube, and lock are included.
  • Heading into the Serra? Pack two bottles and a wind layer. The weather turns fast up on the ridges.

Where to ride

Coast, towns, and inland hills all ride well, so pick routes that suit where you are based. The cycling in the Algarve guide covers base towns, the best months, and a few sample loops.

Arrival with your own bicycle

Flying into Faro? Read the FAO arrivals tips first. Bike boxes usually mean you will need a private transfer with van space, so check before you pay. Hiring a bike near your base often beats collecting one at the airport. Add car hire only for the days you are not riding.

Bikepacking & multi-day tours

Loaded touring and multi-day routes have their own home on our bikepacking page: kit lists, how to pace yourself, and how to mix hire gear with your own setup.

Bicycle hire checklist

  • Check the frame size and pedal type before you fly.
  • Check whether they deliver to your hotel or only do shop pickup. Many villas need delivery.
  • Book early for July and Easter. Electric bikes sell out fast in the busy weeks.

Search hire options and book a bike before your week fills up.

Which type of bike fits your Algarve trip?

Bike type Best for Watch for
Road / endurance Long coastal and inland loops, training weeks, and fast group rides. Rough tarmac and heat, so wider tyres (28 mm and up) add comfort.
Gravel / hybrid Mixed tarmac and quieter tracks. Not every hire shop stocks a proper gravel bike.
Electric bicycle Hill days, or when someone in the group wants a bit of help pedalling. Battery range on long days, so plan where you will charge.
