A week is enough to slow down. You don’t have to cram, and that’s the point. This plan gives you beach mornings, easy Old Town evenings, one boat day, and a trip inland, with room to breathe when the wind turns.
Before you read on, sort out where you’ll sleep. Old Town, Oura, or Falésia all feel different at night, so read where to stay in Albufeira and pick the one that matches the evenings you want. Then book your Faro Airport transfer, or grab car hire after day one if you fancy Silves and the west coast.
Don’t stack three big bookings in the first four days. One main thing per day is the secret to not coming home tired.
Before you go
- Pick your area – where to stay in Albufeira
- Shortlist hotels – best hotels in Albufeira
- Book flights to Faro with a hotel you can still cancel
- Book one boat or cave tour for Day 3 or 4
Day 1 – Arrive and settle in
Morning
Land at Faro, meet your transfer, and check in without piling on plans. If you’re in Falésia, walk the cliff path to Praia da Falésia for a first swim. Old Town guests can head to Praia dos Pescadores by the lift when it’s running.
Afternoon
Buy water and sunscreen, and save a taxi app for the strip nights later. If you arrived hot and tired, the pool at EPIC SANA or your own resort will do nicely.
Evening
Keep dinner within walking distance. The Rua 5 de Outubro lanes in the Old Town work, or a quiet São Rafael terrace if you’re cliff-side. Don’t book a boat yet – wait and see tomorrow’s wind.
Day 2 – Old Town and marina
Morning
Coffee and a pastel de nata in the Old Town above Praia dos Pescadores, then snap the fishermen’s beach from the viewpoint. If you’re staying inland, browse the small shops on the way in.
Afternoon
Pool time, or the Praia de São Rafael cove if you’re on the central cliffs. It’s calmer than Oura most weeks. You could also taxi to Albufeira marina to scope out the boat kiosks for tomorrow.
Evening
Watch the sunset from the marina wall, and book tomorrow’s boat if the wind forecast looks calm. One Old Town dinner is plenty.
Day 3 – The big coast day
Morning
Take a boat trip from the marina or with a west-coast operator – dolphins or caves, depending on the season and the kids’ ages. Aim for a morning departure when the sea is usually calmer.
Afternoon
Lazy sand on Oura or Falésia. No inland drives today, you’ve earned the rest. Gelato on the Oura seafront if hotel noise doesn’t bother you.
Evening
One dinner. The strip if that’s your thing, otherwise the quieter Old Town lanes.
Day 4 – Beach and spa
Morning
A slow pool morning at resort level – EPIC SANA, Pine Cliffs, or the quiet São Rafael bay.
Afternoon
Book a spa slot or have a second swim. Check the wind flags before a long cliff walk with children – exposed beaches get rough fast.
Evening
Early night if you’re driving to Silves or Vilamoura tomorrow. Pack water for the inland heat.
Day 5 – Silves and the hills
Morning
Drive or take a tour to Silves for the cathedral and the Castelo de Silves before the lunch crowds. The orange-country lanes look their best in the morning light.
Afternoon
Lunch inland in Silves town, then head back for sunset at your home beach – Galé or Pescadores, depending on your base.
Evening
Return your car hire the same day if you’d rather not park in the Old Town overnight in peak season.
Day 6 – Vilamoura or Lagos
Morning
Pick one. A half-day at Vilamoura marina for the yacht-watching (25-40 minutes by car), or west to Lagos for the Ponta da Piedade viewpoints if you’ve got the car.
Afternoon
A beach club or the Quarteira seafront if you chose Vilamoura. A Meia Praia stop if Lagos won the morning. Don’t try to rush both coasts in one afternoon – you’ll enjoy neither.
Evening
A relaxed farewell dinner. One strip night if you skipped it, otherwise an Old Town terrace. Book your transfer for departure.
Day 7 – Last swim and home
Morning
One final swim at your home beach, and a last market run if you’ve been self-catering.
Afternoon
Leave a buffer for checkout, then take your transfer back to Faro. Give yourself three hours before an international flight in summer traffic.
Evening
Fly home. Nothing new booked today.
Your weather buffer
The Atlantic breeze can cancel boats or make Oura and Falésia afternoons chilly, even in July. So hold one flexible slot. If a boat gets pushed, swap it with the Silves day. When rain hits, try one of these instead:
- An Old Town museum morning and lunch in the covered lanes
- Algarve Shopping or the indoor market near Guia, good with kids
- A spa afternoon at a Falésia resort when the sea is rough
Check the wind the night before. When the Falésia flags turn red, the Olhos de Água coves and São Rafael usually stay calmer than exposed Oura. Swap the beach, not the whole day.
