Loulé 3-day itinerary

Loulé guide hub

Three days in Loulé - Saturday market, Vilamoura coast, and Aquashow or golf flex without racing every estate fairway.

Loulé is really three holidays in one postcode: a market town, the polished Vilamoura marina, and the Quinta and Vale golf coast. Three days lets you taste all three. You get one Saturday market morning, one Vilamoura coast day, and a flexible day for Aquashow Park or a round of golf.

Read where to stay in Loulé before you pay Vilamoura rates for a week you’ll mostly spend inland. And if the market is the reason you’re coming, land on a Saturday – midweek stalls run, but Saturday is the full show.

Before you go

  1. Where to stay in Loulé – town, Vilamoura, or the Quinta corridor
  1. Best hotels in Loulé, or the Quinta & Vale guide if golf set your base
  1. Flights and a Faro Airport to Vilamoura transfer – one of the shortest resort runs
  1. Aquashow tickets online if Day 3 is a family day, or rock salt mine slots if weather turns wet
  1. Skim top things to do in Loulé for Rocha da Pena and the estate links

Day 1 – Arrive and settle in

Morning

Land at Faro (usually 25 to 40 minutes to the coast) and check in. If it’s Saturday, head straight to Loulé market before 10:00 – the covered stalls, the street produce, the almond pastries. Any other day, explore the cobbled lanes and the cafés by the castle.

Afternoon

Pool time at the resort, or a taxi to Quarteira or Falésia for a first swim. Loulé town has no walk-out beach of its own.

Evening

A low-key dinner. Save the marina polish for Day 2, unless you’re already sleeping in Vilamoura.

Day 2 – Vilamoura coast

Morning

Stroll the Vilamoura marina – the yacht boards, the harbour photos, and the Cerro da Vila Roman ruins if you fancy culture before the heat. Then the beach path toward Vilamoura sand, or the Quarteira seafront for long, flat swimming.

Afternoon

Golfers: one Quinta do Lago or Vale do Lobo round if you booked the tee time – see the Quinta & Vale guide for the estate logistics. Everyone else: a pool or a lunch in Almancil between the estates.

Evening

One dinner on the marina harbour. Best restaurants in Loulé covers the Willie’s-class splurge against Quarteira value.

Day 3 – Aquashow or golf

Morning

With kids: Aquashow Park – slides and flumes near Quarteira. Arrive at opening in peak season.

Golfers: a second tee time or a practice round if Day 2 was all marina.

Walkers: the Rocha da Pena plateau trails inland – a cooler start, water packed, a proper half-day rather than a beach shuffle.

Rain or heat: the Loulé rock salt mine – book ahead; ages 6+; not for claustrophobia.

Afternoon

Check out, a last market run if you’re self-catering, then your transfer to Faro.

Evening

Fly home.

If the Saturday market misses your dates

  1. Mercado de Loulé still runs smaller midweek – less colour, fewer street stalls.
  1. Shift Vilamoura to Day 1 evening and use Day 3 for Rocha da Pena when the heat breaks.
  1. Keep Aquashow as a rain or heat backup, market or no market.

What to book and when

When What
6 weeks Flights – aim for a Saturday arrival if the market matters
4 weeks Hotel from best hotels in Loulé
3 weeks Transfer or car hire for mixed inland-and-coast days
2 weeks Tee times or Aquashow tickets
1 week Marina dinner for Day 2

Next: Pick your base with where to stay in Loulé, skim top things to do in Loulé, and read the Vilamoura town hub if the marina is your draw.
