Attraction review

Farol de Alfanzina

Farol de Alfanzina (Alfanzina Lighthouse) near Carvoeiro - cliff-top lighthouse with long Atlantic views on the Lagoa coast.

Our verdict

A strong short stop on a Carvoeiro cliff day - go for the viewpoint and light, not for a long indoor museum visit.

Welcome to Lagoa notes

Farol de Alfanzina stands on the cliff above the Carvoeiro / Lagoa coast. It’s a working lighthouse, finished in 1919 after plans that dated back to the 1880s. The tower is about 15 metres high, and the light reaches roughly 29 nautical miles according to municipal notes.

Most people come for the cliff panorama, not a tower climb. Treat it as a viewpoint on a coastal walk or drive rather than a guided tour, and check current access before assuming the interior is open. Get there via the EM 1274 from Carvoeiro.

Who it suits: couples and families based in Carvoeiro or Ferragudo who want a short cliff stop with photos. Skip if mobility needs flat promenades only – cliff edges here are uneven and windy.

Worth it? Yes as a 30-60 minute add-on to a Carvoeiro beach day. Official notes: Welcome to Lagoa. Stay planning: where to stay in Carvoeiro.
