Quinta dos Perfumes started life as a 1950s distillery and vineyard before it grew into a 40-hectare citrus orchard, and since 2013 it’s been a family-run hotel near Conceição and Cabanas de Tavira. The bedrooms are modern and look out over the garden, a saltwater pool sits among the orange trees, and the rooftop terrace opens onto sea and mountain views with bar service.
Some days you’ll want nothing more than the estate; others call for the Ria Formosa boat beaches, a round of golf, or an evening in Tavira’s old town. It’s rural and genuine, but the rooms are thoroughly contemporary – don’t expect strip nightlife on your doorstep.
