Olhão is a working seafood town first and a hotel town second, so don’t expect an Albufeira-sized list. What you do get is real enough to build a week around: one marina five-star, a handful of design townhouse boutiques, a rooftop-pool three-star, a couple of parking-friendly chains, and a pine campsite on the Ria Formosa fringe.
Map the pin before you pay. Waterfront market lanes, marina frontage, the Avenida D. João VI shopping edge, and outer Urbanização Cale are four different weeks, not one. And island beaches mean an Armona or Culatra ferry from the front, not a boardwalk outside your door.
Luxury and spa
Real Marina Hotel & Spa – Olhão’s only true five-star, facing the marina. Outdoor pool, a proper spa with its own indoor pool, two restaurants, and a short hop from FAO. Double-check you’re booking the hotel, not the adjoining Real Marina Residence apartments next door – same postcode, different product.
Casa Amor Olhão – a restored 1870 townhouse with a rooftop saltwater pool, its own restaurant, and a café. Good when you want design and a proper dinner under one roof, not a 140-room lobby.
Casa Rosa Villa Hotel – nine rooms on Avenida da República with a heated pool and spa treatments. Naming trap: there’s an unrelated self-catering house also called Casa Rosa on Rua de Faro. This is the one with the pool.
Casa dos Mercados – six design suites beside the markets, with two outdoor pools between them. That’s rare pool depth for a boutique this small.
Mid-range town hotels and boutiques
Pure Formosa Concept Hotel – opened 2021, and still the clearest rooftop pool over the cubist roofs. Your best bet for a modern hotel feel without five-star rates.
Hotel Cidade de Olhão – station-side three-star with a courtyard pool and some kitchenette studios. Practical rather than pretty, and there’s no on-site parking.
Convento – a courtyard boutique B&B with a small rooftop pool. Adults-focused, so check winter opening dates before you fly.
GuestMar – a renovated 19th-century waterfront townhouse, no under-12s, and often a three-night minimum.
Zenit Guest House – market-adjacent rooms and apartments. Worth confirming your exact unit and any pool claims before you pay, since listings vary.
Budget, chain, and simple stays
B&B HOTEL Olhão – a new three-star chain beside Ria Shopping, with free parking, a 24-hour desk, and paid breakfast. The most predictable option if you’re driving.
Bela Ria – entrance-road guesthouse with parking. Older listings still call it Hostel Bela Ria or Hotel Bela Ria; it’s the same house.
Roaz de Bandeira House – a quiet residential guesthouse near the station, with a garden BBQ and a shared kitchen.
Pensão Bicuar Residencial – a classic pensão in the whitewashed quarter, with a roof terrace people genuinely use in the evenings.
O Mirante Guest House – a period townhouse people book for one thing: the mirante viewpoint over town and the Ria.
OceanOasis Hostel & Suites – central dorms and private rooms with a rooftop terrace. Not the same as OceanOasis Residences, the aparthotel out at Pinheiros de Marim.
AL Casa Grande – ultra-budget, shared bathrooms. Worth a quick check that it’s still taking bookings before you pay.
Seaview Guesthouse and Hospedaria Pôr do Sol (also Sunset Olhão) – quieter stays out in Urbanização Cale for drivers, with a longer hop to the ferries.
Farmhouse and countryside hinterland
Drive a few minutes north and east of Olhão – Pechão, Quelfes, Moncarapacho – and the flat farmland has quietly become the town’s real luxury layer: orange groves, lakes, and pools instead of marina views. Octant Vila Monte is the flagship, a five-star orange-grove farmhouse resort with two restaurants, pool suites, and villas. It’s genuinely in Moncarapacho, part of Olhão municipality – not, as older write-ups sometimes claim, in the Monchique hills. Solar Alvura is a smaller adults-only alternative nearby with an infinity pool and spa, and Alma do Campo keeps it to just four apartments, each with a private jacuzzi or plunge pool.
For families, Quinta dos Poetas near Pechão is a genuine four-star rural hotel with a restaurant, playground, and mini-golf – real space for kids to run rather than a pool deck to share. Colina Verde Sports Resort and Laranjal Farm House offer more apartment-style farmhouse stays further east, kitchens included. Simpler countryside guesthouses – Vale de Paraíso, Quinta do Mocho, Casa Mama Mia – trade polish for lower rates. Camper and caravan travellers have Camping Lagoão near Moncarapacho as a budget option. Bring a car for all of these – this is a driving base, not a walk-to-market week.
Camping

Families
Go for Real Marina Hotel & Spa or the Residence apartments when you want space plus a spa and pool, B&B HOTEL or Bela Ria when parking matters more than atmosphere, and Hotel Cidade or Pure Formosa when a town-centre pool beats outer quiet. Skip the adults-only houses with young kids – that’s GuestMar outright, usually Convento, and often the feel at Casa Amor or Casa Rosa too.
If a reliable pool and easy Faro evenings matter more than sleeping above the fish market, base yourself at EVA Senses Hotel or Occidental Faro and day-trip east instead.
Couples
Shortlist Casa Amor, Casa dos Mercados, Casa Rosa, Convento, or Real Marina, depending on whether you want townhouse design or marina spa scale. Pure Formosa covers the mid-range rooftop-pool lane. And the market guesthouses – GuestMar, O Mirante, Bicuar – keep the week cheaper and closer to local life.
Budget
B&B HOTEL, Bicuar, Roaz, OceanOasis, the Cale guesthouses, and the campsite all undercut marina suites by a wide margin. If Olhão’s inventory still feels thin for your dates, Occidental Faro is a practical fallback with easy east day trips.
