The Shack

Quinta do Lago

The Shack review - Quinta do Lago's lakeside bar and grill for tacos, burgers, cocktails, cabanas, and Thursday live music on the estate saltwater lake.

Our verdict

The Shack is the Quinta off-day you actually want - arrive early for a lake cabana or deck table, order sharing plates with a sundowner, and stay for the Thursday live set; book sunbeds online, not dinner tables.

The Shack is Quinta do Lago’s lakeside bar and grill on the estate saltwater lake at 8135-024 Almancil — a faux-rustic fisherman-shack hangout opened in 2014 beside Casa do Lago, with Ria Formosa views, a sandy lakeside beach, and the relaxed mood the resort’s fine-dining rooms do not try to copy. Morning bites, tacos, nachos, burgers, wings, salads, seafood snacks, and homemade cocktails run from brunch through sunset; Provence rosé, sangria, and cold beer are the default afternoon order.

The deck works on a first-come, first-served basis — no table reservations for the bar and grill, so arrive before peak Thursday live music or summer family days. Cabanas Deluxe (from roughly €80 for up to four adults) and lake sunbeds (from roughly €60 for two) book separately on the official site and include a welcome pack with water, fruit, and local pastry. Hours are typically 09:00–21:00 in season; the house scales back in winter — check quintadolago.com before you drive. Enquiries: +351 289 381 225 or [email protected].

Who it suits: Quinta, Vale do Lobo, and Almancil villa groups wanting a pool-and-lake afternoon without marina chaos; families during summer party days with kids’ entertainment; couples after golf who want sundowners without jacket-and-tie formality. Less ideal if you need a guaranteed reservation, a quiet winter lunch, or a traditional Portuguese tasting menu — for that, head to Casa Velha or Gusto on another night.
