East of Quarteira, on the same run of sand as Loulé Velho and Almargem, you’ll find Praia do Trafal. The Câmara Municipal describes a long dune cord separating the beach from farmland, with Vale do Lobo’s cliffs and pine trees visible in the distance. Most visitors cluster into a smaller, busier area by the snack bar and parking rather than spreading out along the full stretch, so you don’t have to go far to find your own patch of sand.
Getting there: head east from Quarteira toward Almancil and follow the beach signs. You’ll get about 300 m of asphalt, then roughly 1.5 km of dirt track skirting the Loulé Velho pines. Parking is free but improvised between dune and track, dusty in summer and a bit chaotic in August. Once you’re out of the car, though, it’s a flat, easy walk onto the sand.
Good for you if you’re staying in Quarteira or Vilamoura and want a calmer beach without a full Almargem-style expedition. Not for you if you need lounger-for-hire polish, or you’re driving a low-clearance hire car on a day you’d rather not test its suspension.
