PortoBay Falésia

4-star hotel

Albufeira Luxury

PortoBay Falésia is a clifftop 4-star hotel in Quinta do Milharó, Olhos de Água, with direct steps to Praia da Falésia, a Blu Spa, and dining split between a buffet restaurant and an à la carte Italian.

Our verdict

Book PortoBay Falésia for clifftop sea views and PortoBay's spa-led hotel service on the Olhos de Água side of Albufeira. Book PortoBay Blue Ocean next door for a newer, more adults-leaning sister property. Book 3HB Guaraná or 3HB Clube Humbria nearby if All-Inclusive suits your budget better than à la carte dining.

Wake up on the cliff. Walk down steps cut into the rock. Spend the afternoon on Praia da Falésia. That’s the week at PortoBay Falésia, in Quinta do Milharó just outside Olhos de Água.

It’s PortoBay’s mainland Algarve hotel – the same Madeira hospitality group, the same spa-and-service focus, not a big All-Inclusive buffet machine. Check-in from 14:00, check-out by 12:00.

Who fits

Couples who want clifftop sea views and proper hotel service – concierge, spa, room service – rather than an apartment kitchen. Families who like a real pool day with a children’s pool, then beach at the bottom of the steps for the rest of the afternoon. Anyone who knows PortoBay from Madeira and wants the same standards without the island flight.

Skip it if cliff steps aren’t practical for your group, or if All-Inclusive dining matters more than an à la carte night. The nearby 3HB properties do that differently.

Location and the beach steps

The clifftop is the whole story: Atlantic views from the gardens and pool terraces, and a stepped path down through the cliff to the sand. Roughly 500 metres to Olhos de Água’s shops and restaurants. About 8 km to Albufeira Old Town if you want cobbles and later bars one evening.

Faro Airport is around 40 km – budget real transfer time, not a quick hop. See our transfers and car hire guides.

Pools, spa, and facilities

Outdoor pool plus a separate children’s pool in the gardens. Indoor pools linked to the wellness area for cooler days or an early swim before the sun’s fully up.

The Blu Spa is the main wellness draw – marine-themed treatments, with private outdoor gazebos if you’d rather stay outside. Gym and tennis courts cover the active side.

Dining

Two restaurants: a buffet for breakfast and themed dinners, and an à la carte Italian and Mediterranean room for a proper sit-down without leaving the grounds. A poolside bar covers light meals, snacks, and a kids’ menu. A second bar handles cocktails and evening drinks, sometimes with live music.

Compared with

PortoBay Blue Ocean is the newer sister hotel next door, linked by garden paths, with a more contemporary build and an adults-only pool. 3HB Guaraná and 3HB Clube Humbria cover All-Inclusive families in the same neighbourhood at a lower price. Where to stay in Albufeira if you’re still comparing Olhos de Água against Falésia and the Strip.

Worth it?

Yes, for a clifftop hotel week with real spa and dining service on the Olhos de Água side of Albufeira – as long as the beach steps and the Faro drive don’t put you off. Confirm spa hours and restaurant reservation rules with the hotel before you travel; both can shift by season.

Next: Compare with PortoBay Blue Ocean next door if you want the newer build and adults-only pool option.

Quick FAQ

Is the beach a direct walk-in?
No – it’s a stepped path down the cliff face, not a flat walk-out.

Is this connected to PortoBay Blue Ocean?
Yes – the two neighbouring hotels are linked through the gardens, though each runs its own pools and restaurants.

Good for young children?
Yes, with a dedicated children’s pool – though the beach steps are worth thinking about with a pushchair.
